Phishing and Pharming
New Avenues for Fraud
Fraudulent phishing and pharming behavior via the Internet has become an every day occurance in today's world. Online scams fill many people's email boxes.
But most phishing and pharming scams have certain quirks that can alert you if the potentially dangerous email is spam, a phishing and pharming scam or a virus that could your computer.
Phishing attempts to lure personal information from an Internet user through emails or instant, pop-up type messages.
Phishing scams can be found by any sophisticated Internet user, who has an eye for a bogus email or a strange-looking pop that suddenly arises on their computer.
But those who find out they are victims of phishing scams many times also find themselves victims of pharming scams too. Phishing and pharming scams are similar but there are some differences.
Pharming is a much more sophisticated way for hackers to get their hands on your private information, bank account numbers and even your private pin numbers.
Pharming happens when a hacker finds a vulnerability in DNS software, which allows them to acquire domain names from a site. Then they set up a decoy site that looks just like a bank's site.
This pharming technique allows the cracker to attain personal information from people going online who think they are using their regular bank site to do their banking.
They are pharmed when the domain name they think they are logged into is redirected, and phished when their personal information is taken. Phishing and pharming scams are reaching an alarming rate.
Hopefully by reading information like this you you will never become a victim of phishing and pharming.
